Alan Brown oversees NC AHEC’s statewide services to students and preceptors, including student housing and preceptor payments, and serves as the primary contact for the allied health, continuing medical education, mental health and pharmacy disciplines.
Alan obtained a Master of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill and worked in a variety of mental health settings before joining Greensboro AHEC in 1990. As director of mental health education at Greensboro AHEC, he coordinated continuing education programs for professionals in a nine-county region. In 1995, he joined the NC AHEC Program Office in Chapel Hill to lead the newly formed Office of Regional Primary Care Education (ORPCE), which facilitates primary care community-based education across the state. As a licensed clinical social worker, Alan was active in the field of domestic violence and facilitated men’s groups in Randolph and Chatham counties from 1990–2010. Originally from Asheboro, North Carolina, Alan graduated from Guilford College, Greensboro, in 1981 with a BS in psychology.
