What are the conditions that facilitate recovery and why do we continue to see a revolving door of hospitalization, incarceration, and crisis?\r\n\r\nThese are questions that I have examined for 35 years and their pursuit led me to multiple countries, 27 states, and working in and with numerous types of organizations. In the end, I learned and continue to learn the difference between being in the illness industry and the wellness business. This session will explore the idea of recovery and will highlight Promise Resource Network's Recovery Ecosystem that began in 2005 with one question \"if we were to bring mental health recovery into NC, what would it look like?\" Now, PRN operates 27 programs with zero barrier access, and (4) 24\/7 emergency department alternatives serving thousands of people each month.","topic_keywords":null,"show_lms_open":false,"casce_contact_person_name":"Lorie Houston","casce_contact_person_email":"lhouston@wakemed.org","registration":false,"calendarReminder":null,"suppress_cpd":0,"casce_ahec":{"ahec_pk":9,"ahec_name":"Wake","hostname":"www.wakeahec.org"},"casce_event_discipline":[{"eventdiscipline_pk":115126,"event_fk":79544,"discipline_fk":10,"casce_discipline":{"discipline_pk":10,"discipline":"Medicine"}},{"eventdiscipline_pk":115127,"event_fk":79544,"discipline_fk":11,"casce_discipline":{"discipline_pk":11,"discipline":"Mental Health"}}],"casce_budget_discipline":null,"casce_event_calendar_scope":null,"casce_event_type":{"eventtype_pk":1,"event_type":"public non-contracted"},"casce_event_structure":{"eventStructure_pk":3,"description":"workshop"},"casce_event_status":{"statustype1_pk":1,"status":"Open"},"casce_join_url":null,"casce_landing_page":null,"casce_welcome_message":null,"casce_event_tags_region":[],"casce_event_tags_statewide":[],"casce_event_objectives":[{"eventObjective_pk":243435,"event_fk":79544,"display_order":0,"description":"Consider the possibilities for a re-imagined mental health system."},{"eventObjective_pk":243436,"event_fk":79544,"display_order":1,"description":"Get a sneak peak into \"The Best Place in the World to Be Mentally Ill,\" Trieste, Italy and compare their system to the US based mental health system"},{"eventObjective_pk":243437,"event_fk":79544,"display_order":2,"description":"Learn the 4 primary \"unlearnings\" that research and experience with people with lived SPMI have taught me."},{"eventObjective_pk":243438,"event_fk":79544,"display_order":3,"description":"Learn about peer-run ecosystems as safety net organizations and the myriad of ways they can fill gaps, challenge status quo, and serve the very people that have been challenged to engage."}],"casce_contact_person":{"firstname":"Lorie","lastname":"Houston","person_id":"houston7098","person_pk":444452,"home_email":"lhouston@wakemed.org","email_goes_to":"O","primary_affiliation_fk":316822,"preferred_email_for_business":"lhouston@wakemed.org","email_preference_for_business":"Office email","primary_affiliation":{"affiliation_pk":316822,"title":"Project Coordinator","office_email":"lhouston@wakemed.org"}},"casce_event_fee":[{"eventfee_pk":156279,"event_fk":79544,"event_fee":0,"begin_date":null,"expiration_date":null,"show_for_olp":"Yes","description":"Registration Fee.","required":0,"sort_order":null}],"casce_event_sessions":[{"session_pk":332233,"event_fk":79544,"session_name":"Our People Can't Recover: Unlearning Illness","session_begin_ts":"2026-11-19 12:00:00","session_end_ts":"2026-11-19 13:00:00","check_in_ts":"2026-11-19 12:00:00","session_status_fk":1,"location_organization_fk":4098,"room_fk":null,"min_attendance":0,"max_attendance":120,"deliverymethod_fk":1,"session_description":"","topic_keywords":"","private_url":"","eeds_ain":null,"update_person":"pomeroy","update_place":"casce clone_event","update_ts":"2026-10-28 08:53:48","required":0,"sort_order":null,"casce_organization":{"organization_pk":4098,"organization_name":"William F Andrews Center","nickname":"The Andrews Conference Center","inactive_date":null,"workplace_fk":23,"federal_site_type_fk":null,"address1":"3024 New Bern Ave","address2":null,"city_fk":398,"zip":"27610-1255","main_phone":"919-350-7670","main_fax":null,"main_email":null,"main_website":"http:\/\/www.wakeahec.org","comment":"DO NOT DELETE: The Andrews Center is not WAKE AHEC.
